A UX-Driven Website for a Legacy Restaurant

NR Biryani & Kabab is a household name in Ambur — famous for its richly spiced biryanis and smoky kababs. Loved by locals, the restaurant was thriving offline but had no digital presence. They came to us with a clear goal: to create a modern, user-friendly website that would showcase their offerings, serve both dine-in and online customers, and help them grow in a digitally connected world.

Business Need and Goals

Digitizing a Local Food Legacy

The restaurant’s team wanted more than just an online presence — they needed a digital system that could:

Help new customers discover the restaurant

Provide a live menu that shows availability in real-time

Establish credibility and make the brand searchable online

Be easy to manage, even for non-technical staff

Let dine-in customers order faster without waiting for staff

At the same time, we had to keep things simple. Most of their users were on mobile, and many weren’t highly tech-savvy — so clarity, speed, and ease of use were non-negotiable.

Our Role

Our team handled everything from strategy and research to UX design, front-end development, and SEO optimization. The process included deep user research, defining personas, mapping out real customer journeys, wireframing, designing high-fidelity mockups, and delivering a responsive, SEO-optimized website.

UX & Research Process

How we crafted an effortless experience

Understanding the Users

To design the right experience, we first had to understand the people who would be using it. This included both restaurant staff and customers.

We created user personas that helped us identify key behaviors and needs:

  • Dine-in Customers who want fast service and easy access to the menu

  • Online Visitors looking for directions, menu items, or availability

  • Restaurant Staff who need a simple way to update the menu

This helped us anchor every feature and layout decision around the actual goals of the people using it.

User Journey Mapping

We mapped the complete journey from discovery to dining. For dine-in customers, the flow included:

  • Entering the restaurant

  • Scanning a QR code

  • Viewing the menu

  • Making decisions quickly

For online users:

  • Searching for food or restaurant nearby

  • Landing on the website

  • Browsing dishes

  • Making a dine-in plan or ordering

This revealed important touchpoints where UX improvements could remove friction and add value — like replacing printed menus with a live digital one, and optimizing load speed for quick browsing.

Research Outcomes

Our research made it clear that we needed a mobile-first design with:

  • A simplified UI for non-tech users

  • Real-time updates (availability, stock)

  • Faster access through QR codes

  • Clear CTAs for ordering or contacting

  • Easy backend content management for staff

Wireframes

We started with low-to-mid fidelity wireframes to block out core pages like the homepage, menu page, item detail view, and QR landing page. The goal was to ensure smooth navigation, fast information retrieval, and clear visual hierarchy — especially for mobile users.

Visual Design Direction

The look and feel of the site took inspiration from the restaurant’s authentic roots. We chose a warm color palette that reflected the richness of their dishes. Typography was kept modern yet traditional, and spacing was generous to give every element breathing room.

Design wasn’t just about aesthetics — it was about making the experience feel simple, welcoming, and confident.

High-Fidelity Mockups & Prototypes

Once the visual direction was locked in, we created high-fidelity mockups and tested the interface on multiple devices. From layout refinements to button sizing and scroll behavior, we tweaked the experience to make it effortless for all users.

Interactive prototypes were shared with the restaurant team for feedback. Their input helped us refine minor UX decisions — like menu categorization and item visibility.

Key Features Implemented

QR-Based Menu Access

Every table in the restaurant was equipped with a custom QR code. When scanned, it takes customers directly to the live menu — allowing them to view dishes, availability, and pricing without needing printed menus or server assistance. This saved staff time and accelerated order placement.

Real-Time Menu & Stock Updates

We built a simple backend interface for the staff to update dish availability in real-time. If something goes out of stock, the item is automatically hidden or marked unavailable. This eliminated confusion and reduced the number of unnecessary calls or disappointed customers.

Mobile-Optimized Menu Browsing

Since most customers access the site on mobile, we designed a fast-loading, thumb-friendly menu experience. Items are categorized clearly, with visuals and descriptions. Users can scroll smoothly and get the information they need in seconds.

SEO & Visibility

Prior to this project, NR Biryani & Kabab had zero visibility on Google. We restructured the website for search engine optimization — optimizing page speed, keyword targeting (e.g., "best biryani in Ambur"), and meta descriptions. Within weeks, the website started appearing in local search results, bringing in new organic traffic.

From Footfall to Full Digital Flow

Customers now walk into the restaurant, scan a code, and start ordering within seconds. Staff no longer have to repeat menus or answer availability calls all day. Online visitors can browse confidently and even plan their visit ahead of time.

Conclusion

Blending Tradition with Technology Seamlessly

The website gave NR Biryani & Kabab a credible digital identity, complete with a beautiful design and powerful functionality — all in one place. It also laid the groundwork for future features like online ordering or delivery integration, if the restaurant ever decides to scale further.

This project wasn’t just about building a website. It was about solving real problems for a beloved local business — and doing it in a way that felt seamless, intuitive, and authentic.

By leading with UX research, listening to the client, and focusing on what truly mattered to users, we built more than a platform — we helped transform how NR Biryani & Kabab connects with their community, both in-person and online.
